Summer school is a cross community programme that pupils from Lisneal College and St Mary’s College participate in for one week every June. The programme is designed to build relationships between the Catholic and Protestant communities and to strengthen the links between both schools.

 

The first and last day of Summer school is hosted at the University of Ulster.  The University opens summer school and facilitates the first day of educational activities, such team building skills, ICT Star Maker program, Art, Yoga, Sports and the pupils get to utilise an amazing Dance Studio with an experienced choreographer.

 Summer school is an action packed week filled with educational and fun activities for the pupils to experience and enjoy. Such activities include, visits to W5 in Belfast and  2009 Science Exhibition , the Belfast Zoo, the Irish Famine Village, the Giants Causeway. The pupils also participate in cross community educational seminars. They experience adventure at the Creggan Country Park by taking part in orienteering, Kayaking and team building skills. They also visit the cinema and have lunch at the Foyleside shopping centre.On the last day of the programme, the pupils attend their graduation ceremony at the University of Ulster with parents and teachers. They are given the opportunity to wear the graduation gowns and receive a certificate of merit for completing the 

programme. The programme is thoroughly enjoyed by all of the pupils, it boasts their self esteem andd confidence to meet new people from different schools. It is rewarding, memorable and an unforgettable experience.
