But
grow in the
grace and
knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. 2 Peter 3:18
This verse encompasses the main aim of the group this year. Our theme is Growth and we pray that we will see both staff and pupils growing as Christians and bearing much Fruit throughout this year.
The full Scripture Union (Junior & Senior) meets on Thursdays from 3.30pm until 4.30pm, while Prayer Meetings are held during Tuesday break times. There are an average of 35 pupils attending on Thursdays this year, led by Mr Morrison, Mr Johnston, Mr Keys, Mrs Loughery and Mrs Mc Morris.
SU begins with juice & biscuits, fun and some silly games before worship which is usually followed by a talk. This year we have divided into girls and boys for “Girls of Grace” and “Boys of the Bible” looking at characters in the Bible and seeing how they served God.
The highlights of the year are, undoubtedly, bowling in September as we welcomed new Year 8 pupils into SU. The SU weekend in November spent in The Faith Mission centre in Portadown for both senior and junior pupils. Approximately 25 pupils attended this year and were challenged by our speaker Jonny Doey on our weekend theme “Service in Action”. The Prayer, Praise & Pizza afternoon was well attended. After Prayer and Praise led by members of SU and Mr Morrison lots of pizza was consumed. Our last event this term is scheduled for December – the Christmas Party, we are all looking forward to “Secret Santa”.
Every other year SU invites Crown Jesus Miniseries into school for a week-long Mission during the autumn term. The assembly hall fills each day during both junior and senior lunch breaks to watch different performers eg juggler & flame breather, a famous motorcyclist and a beat boxer, after the performance pupils listen to a short challenging testimony about how Jesus has changed their lives. On the Friday evening there is a main event; many young people come to gunge a teacher! At this event pupils are challenged with the gospel message.
In the New Year we look forward to another return of the Crown Jesus Ministries Team. This time they will be working in and around Londonderry for 5 months. This is very exciting time and we pray that God will use this time to add to our numbers and to build up Christians in their faith.
Date for your diary: Please join us on Thursday 25th March 10 for our annual Parents & Friends evening.
