THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD SCHEME

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award aims to provide young people with an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding programme of personal development. There are three levels to the award; Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each level requires participants to complete their Service (helping other people in the local community), Expeditions (training for, planning and completing a journey on foot, horseback, boat or bicycle), Skills (covering almost any hobby, skill or interest), Physical Recreation (sport, dance and fitness) and the Gold Award includes a Residential Project (a purposeful enterprise with people not previously known to the participant).

At Lisneal College an enthusiastic team strongly encourage pupils to become involved in the Award scheme, highlighting the benefits they receive from it. Participation levels are high and pupils’ who complete the award all experience a great sense of satisfaction as they recognise what they have achieved, not least of all in developing key characteristics such as teamwork and commitment.

Over the past number of years our Silver and Gold Award groups have completed expeditions in the Sperrin and Mourne Mountains.
