Keystage 3
All pupils in Years 8-10 study French, German or Spanish – in Year 8 the pupils have the opportunity to experience all three duringtwo 45 minute periods each week, culminating in one language being studied to the end of Keystage 3 or as an option to GCSE.
Keystage 4
At Keystage 4 pupils prepare for GCSE during 4 45-minute periods. We are fortunate to use the services of three foreign-language assistants – one from each country.
The department has a wide range of teaching resources available, including Promethean boards, data projectors, software packages and a fully-equipped ICT suite, enabling teachers to employ a variety of methodologies to enhance learning.
Language trips are arranged every two years, one to each country, for years 9-11. These trips are invaluable, as the children experience at first-hand the way of life and food and customs of the country.
