If pupils are to become contributors to society and the economy, and be responsible for their personal finance in later life, it is essential that mathematical skills are developed throughout their school career. In Lisneal College our aim is to enable pupils to acquire these skills.
In class pupils have the opportunity to engage in a range of learning experiences. Use is made of active learning methods, ICT, problem solving, peer teaching, skilful questioning and clear teacher expositions. Pupils are encouraged to talk about their learning. Work is related to the real world where appropriate, and wall displays highlight a range of career paths requiring Mathematics.
At Key Stage 4 all pupils are entered for formal examinations geared to their level of achievement. These examinations are available at GCSE Foundation and Higher level. Some pupils enter for the Mathematics for Life examination.
A Maths Competition takes place on a monthly basis, which is open to all pupils, and a prize is awarded to the first correct entry selected. An annual Maths Roadshow, organised by SENTINUS, is an event which is enjoyed by Year 9 pupils.
We encourage pupils to use websites in order to enhance their mathematical skills.
Below are some websites which are of use to all students.
