ICT in Lisneal College
ICT is a core subject in Lisneal College. This means that every pupil has ICT lessons from Year 8 to Year 12.
From Year 8 to Year 10 the pupils are introduced to common types of software such as:

- Wordprocessing
- DTP
- Databases
- Spreadsheet
- Presentation software
- Graphics
- Webpage creation.
IT is a constantly changing field and at Key Stage 3 (Years 8 – 10) in line with the requirements of the Revised Curriculum, accreditation will be delivered through the subject departments. It is anticipated that areas such as Animation, Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Music Technology will be included at this level. It is hoped that the OCR NEWCLAiT qualification, currently delivered at Key Stage 4, will also be delivered at Key Stage 3 level.
In Years 11 and 12 at present the pupils are given the opportunity to study for TWO external qualifications, OCR NEWCLAiT and GCSE ICT.
Post 16, the ICT department offers Advanced Level Applied ICT, both double and single award.
We were proud of two of our A level pupils in the summer exams 2007 – Gary Thompson and Stephen Lowry who came 1st and 2nd respectively in Northern Ireland in Advanced Level Double Award Applied Information Technology.
Our success in A level Double Award continued in 2008 when three of our pupils came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in Northern Ireland.
In addition, post 16 students who do not require an A level qualification in IT, may study for the IT Key Skills Level 3 certification. Holding this qualification demonstrates a high level of IT competence which will support them in their A level courses.
Students have also participated in workshops on computer game design at the school given by Professor Ernest Adams of California, co-founder of the International Games’ Developers Association.
Students have taken part in the BringITon event organised by Momentum - the NI ICT Federation, most recently at the Everglades Hotel.
In November 2009 the pupils from the ICT department with the help of Mr White from the Technology Department took part in the Northern Ireland round of the International LEGO league competition in the Odyssey in Belfast, where they gained fifth place in Northern Ireland.
