Over the past number of years programmes such as “The Apprentice” and “Dragon’s Den” have introduced young people to the idea of running their own business or indeed pursuing a career in business. Business Studies is a subject which pupils can choose to study at the end of Key Stage 3. The courses offered by the department afford students the opportunity to acquire and develop the knowledge, understanding and relevant business skills necessary for the workplace or in further education and training.
 
These courses lay the foundation for Advanced Study at Lisneal College or other locations of further and higher education. It can lead to employment opportunities in business, administration, education and the public services.
 
The Business Studies Department is highly successful with an excellent record of impressive examination success at GCSE and A level. Through involvement with Young Enterprise, Key Camps and other initiatives the Business Studies Department has developed effective links facilitating the personal and entrepreneurial skills of the participants.
 
The department offers a variety of courses at key stage 4 and post 16:
  • GCSE Business & Communication Systems
  • GCSE Double Award Applied Business
  • GCSE Business Studies
  • Occupational Studies – Office Administration
  • OCR Text Production & Word Processing
  • GCE Applied Business (Double Award)
  • GCE Applied Business (Single Award)
Facilities within the department include 4 designated Business Studies Rooms and a Sixth Form Study area fully equipped with Dell computers.
