Grease 2008

After the success of Joseph in 2005 we wanted to choose a show that would reflect the positive mood of the new school and would leave everyone on a high. Grease seemed an obvious choice –upbeat, fun, exciting and full of comedy and dance. Grease was performed over three nights, 3rd -5th December 2008 in the new assembly hall which proved a most successful venue with it’s deep stage, new sound system and new lighting.

A cast of almost 50 pupils delighted full houses every night. Andrew Trotter as Danny and Jill Goligher as Sandy provided the audience with a dream like couple to watch as they sang and danced their way through the show. Lauryn January gave a most professional performance as the sassy Rizzo with a particularly splendid rendition of ‘There are worse things I could do’. Her younger brother Jonathan Campbell was very convincing in the cute boy role of Doody and all the t-birds , Lewis Nicholl, Jonathan Mc Gilloway and Gareth McFarland were totally believable in their roles. Stacey Falconer was a most sweet Frenchy, Natasha Callan was hilarious as Jan and Kimberley Hardy presented a most attractive Marty. Teachers, Mr. Gordon White and Mrs. Amanda Thompson provided pupil amusement in their cameo roles of the Teen Angel and Miss Lynch.

Grease is a very energetic show and one of the challenges was to get boys and girls to rock and roll together but it didn’t take much encouragement and soon ‘Born to hand jive’ was electric with rock and roll worthy of the west end stage. Colourful costumes, a strip lighted stage, top class musicians and a cast bursting with enthusiasm made for a most uplifting spectacle – a perfect ‘opening number’ for Lisneal. What’s next? Who knows? The sky is the limit – but I feel that while this was the first show in the new building it will certainly not be the last !
