 Headmaster's Welcome

A MESSAGE FROM THE HEADMASTER

Welcome to Lisneal College Web site.

The provision of Lisneal College on a prestigious 22 acre site on the Crescent Link is the most exciting development in Controlled Post Primary education in this city for decades.  This new 11 – 18 College, conveniently situated on a magnificent site on one of the main roads on the outskirts of the city, will ensure that succeeding generations of pupils are taught in a state of the art building.

The first sod was cut in June 2005 and pupils were admitted to the new premises in September 2007.

The College caters for a wide range of abilities.  In the first three years students follow a broad and balanced curriculum based on the current requirements.  At Key Stage 4 an academic or vocational route is offered and students have the opportunity to take GCSE’s in all areas of study.  In response to the developing needs of the local community and the interests of pupils and parents in courses at post-16 level, the school continues to develop the provision for pupils wishing to build on their success in GCSE and enhance their employment prospects.  A Levels are now offered in Business Studies, Health and Social Care, Engineering, ICT, Science, Art, English, History, R.E., Music, Accounts and Moving Image Art.

Careers education is provided by a Specialist Careers Department.  Pupils take part in individual interviews, work experience and interview skills training.

The extra-curricular life is well developed and highly valued.  Students can choose from Athletics, Dance, Soccer, Badminton, Basketball, Netball, Hockey, Tennis, Rugby, Cricket, Bowls, Trampolining, Fitness Suite, Chemistry Club, Technology Club, Art Club, Film Club, Scripture Union, Orchestra, Choir, Drama, ACF, and Young Enterprise.  The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme provides excellent opportunities for the development of skills and character.

The pastoral care system in the College is strong and parents are encouraged to make contact immediately should problems arise.  Each year group has a parents’ consultation evening during the year when parents have the opportunity to discuss their child’s progress directly with subject teachers.

If you require any further information about the College please contact us.
